Today, was another one of those days where being a stay at home mom was not all that glamorous. Not sure why I got to have 2 of these days in a row when I am 8 months pregnant and feeling kinda tired, but lets just hope they are getting it out of the way before the baby comes....
It started with Logan at the bookstore. He did great at the story time. He was very chatty telling everyone, "I be Elmo for Halloween" and "My Daddy be a big wolf, his costume scary". He seriously said both these lines about 10 times. It was so cute to see him interacting with everyone. Unfortunately, I then made the bad decision to stop at Starbucks for a hot chocolate on the way out of the store. Logan insisted he wanted a cookie, but knowing we had brownies and a TON of Halloween candy at home I said no. Well, Logan through a huge temper tantrum. He was literally on the floor crying that he wanted a cookie. I can only remember 2 big public tantrums in the last 8 years as a parent between my 3 boys (though I am sure there may have been 1 or 2 more). Mostly, they reserve those moments for me at home, which is much easier to deal with. Being pregnant I couldn't lift him up and carry him out, with him kicking and yelling, so I had to wait it out. Definitely an embarrassing moment as a parent, but the hug and apologies I got once we got home almost made it OK. I treasure my snuggle time when I can get it.
The rest of the day was uneventful until Evan and Colin got home. I caught Evan hiding in the dining room between the wall and the china cabinet with a huge pile of candy bars and he was chomping away. If I wasn't so mad at his sneakiness, I would have laughed. He did a couple other sneaky things too, liking playing x-box on mute after I told him he couldn't play and finding Dennis' iPad under his sheets. I hope he isn't picking up too much from his big brother, because Evan has always been very honest. I know he was very sorry and I know he is a good kid at heart, but I hope this phase passes quickly.
After homework was done, I had 7 boys in my basement at one point because a bunch of neighbors were over. Because boys are so loud I was literally thanking God that we have a basement. Growing up in a house full of women, I don't think I will ever be used to the noise and activity level that a bunch of boys can create. We used to spend our days playing school or house, making up dances, or playing barbies. There wasn't much fighting or yelling going on. I try hard to maintain a quiet noise level in our home and keep everyone calm. I know I don't always succeed, but I don't think it hurts either. I feel like if I yell at them, then they will yell at each other and it just becomes a crazy cycle.
Anyway, by bath and bed time I was worn out. I am forever thankful my kids go to bed easily without a fight. When I said prayers with the boys tonight, I was sure to end with a prayer that they all have good days tomorrow and hopefully God and the boys were listening to me...
Just a quick note as I look back over this...Friday was much much better. Evan came home with his progress report (the Kindergarten version of a report card) and it was excellent. He knows almost everything he is supposed to know by the end of Kindergarten and he scored excellent marks for sharing in class, working well with others and working well Independently. We are so proud of him!
Welcome to my crazy life! As a mommy to 3 adorable boys my days are full of adventure and fun. I am realizing that time goes by so quickly and I don't want to forget all the cute things that the boys say and do. I hope that this blog will serve as a journal to record all those precious moments...

Halloween 2012
The boys are all about Star Wars this year, so it was no surprise they wanted to be Star Wars characters for Halloween. Evan chose Darth Vader and Colin wanted General Grievas. We thought about putting Logan in a Yoda costume, but since he also loves Elmo and we had a perfectly good Elmo costume already (Colin and Evan have both used it in previous years), we decided to be frugal and use that instead.
Our neighbors had their annual pre trick or treat dinner and then Dennis took the boys trick or treating. Because Logan was the youngest and thus the slowest in the huge group of neighbors, Dennis and the boys ended up on their own most of the time. Logan loved trick or treating. Often he was by himself (Colin and Evan tended to run ahead), and he would still go up to the houses and ring the door bell and say "Trick or Treat". He is by far the least shy of my 3 kids at that age at probably in general. I think at 2 1/2, Colin may have gone to 5 houses, if we took him at all. Same for Evan. But, Logan lasted the entire time the other 2 boys were out there.
I stayed home to hand out candy. While it would be nice for us to all go trick or treating as a family, I felt that if every house had both parents gone and just put a bowl out front for the kids, then that wouldn't be very fun for the kids. Sure enough, Dennis said at least half of the houses had bowls out front. Dennis and I decided a while ago we would just trade off years, so since he stayed home last year, I did this year. For the record, I got lucky because last year was beautiful weather and this year was FREEZING. The boys had long underwear, clothes and fleeces under their costumes as well as hats and gloves.
Highlight of the evening for me was when they all got back home after being worn out. Evan says to me, "Mommy I got lots of Reese's peanut butter cups for you, since that is your favorite." I am blown away by his generosity at times. How many little boys are thinking of their Mom's as they pick out candy? Love that kid.

Poop.
Evan had a great Tae Kwan Do lesson today. He was picked to demonstrate a hammer fist punch and board breaking and he broke the board on his first try. He got to keep the board as a memory of his first board breaking. He seems to be really enjoying Tae Kwan Do and is picking it up quickly.
Unfortunately, the early part of my day was not so great. It started out fine, Logan and I had a nice time at the library for story time. He had fun dancing to the songs, though he mostly did the movements sitting on my lap. At nap time though, I went to check on him and he was sweetly sitting on his bed flipping through a book. He looked up at me and said, "I pooped in my bed, you need to clean me." On closer inspection, his hands were covered in poo as was his sheet and his mesh bed railing. I had to take the railing off and scrub it in the shower it was so bad. Now, I am the first to admit that most days I love being a stay at home mom. Who wouldn't want to spend their day with the little people they love most in the world? But, every once in a while an episode like this happens and all you can think is, how am I not getting paid for this!
Logan is 50/50 when it comes to taking naps these days. He is great at school, but not so great most days at home. Luckily, he will stay in his bedroom for a couple hours and look at books quietly. Occasionally, he gets in to a bit of mischief, like ripping pages of a book, but most days I think we are pretty lucky that he will sit in his room quietly.
The evening was spent with Dennis showing Colin and Evan how to carve their own pumpkins. Dennis carved our 3 bigger ones over the weekend, but the boys wanted to do their 2 real small ones. So, they designed what they wanted it to look like and carved it all by themselves!

Preparing For Halloween.
Friday night, Logan's daycare had their annual "Spooktacular". Basically, the kids can go from room to room at the school and trick or treat. Logan enjoyed running in to some of his classmates and seeing all the costumes.
After that, the older boys went over to our neighbors for a "Spooky Movie Night". We dropped them off and they watched a movie and then ate smores. Evan was nervous at first the movie would be too scary for him, but I think hearing there would be smores afterwards changed his mind. For the record, the movie wasn't too scary at all and he had a lot of fun.
Saturday, while Evan had Tae Kwan Do, I pretty much spent most of the day on the couch. I had been fighting a cold for the last few days and was feeling very run down. I managed to pull myself together in the afternoon to go to another neighbors house for football watching and food. The kids all played nicely outside and in the basement while the adults socialized.

Family And The Moore's Come To Indiana...
I did not make this blog open to the public for a reason, I did not start it as a typical blog to make money or to get followers. It is only intended as a journal for myself to record our lives and for my kids to be able to look back on in the future. So, this "entry" is really just my own personal thoughts, feel free to skip over this, if I could make some individual entries fully private I would...
Over the last couple weeks I have really been reflecting over family. I have been around a lot of people who I realize don't hold family to the same importance level that I do. I didn't think I was raised any different than the average person, but as I get older I am realizing that my family is definitely not the norm (Dennis has been telling me this for years, but I never understood what he meant). We were raised that the number one thing in your life is your family. My parents never talked about money, asked someone how much they make or talked about material things. Happiness was being close to family. As we have grown, my sisters and I text or call all the time. My brother has even called asking for baby advice. There is nothing we want more than for our kids to grow up near each other and with a big extended family to help influence them to make good decisions.
My parents have given us example of what it means to put your spouse above all relationships. Because if that relationship isn't strong, the kids will suffer and everything else falls apart. I try not to go a day with out saying I love you to my husband or giving him a kiss and I know for sure I haven't gone a day without telling my kids the same and giving them many kisses. My parents raised us to be selfless and put our kids first instead of ourselves. I am amazed at some of the things I have heard parents say to their own kids. I can't think of any time my parents ever insulted me.
When I pray for my kids, it is always the same prayer, that they are happy and healthy. I don't care how much money they make in the future (though I hope they will be comfortable) or what they decide to do. What I want for them is their health and happiness. I hope they stay close to each other, put their wives/husband above all relationships, and love their kids as Dennis and I love them. To me these are such basic wishes and yet I am realizing that the world is full of very selfish people and these "natural instincts" do not come natural to a lot of people.
Just last night I hosted a girls night and I commented that we did not move here with the intention of it being a long term move and the girls were shocked. They said, "But it is the number one place in America to live." While I agree it is a great place (weather and bugs excluded), it is too far from family. At the end of the day to me that is the most important thing, keeping those relationships strong.
With that said....my sister Julie and her family came to Indiana last Thursday to visit us. Months ago, she asked when would be a good time and I told her the boys had fall break this past weekend and since she would still be on maternity leave, it worked out perfect. With three kids (one of who is a newborn), it was a long 12-14 hour drive each way for them, but they did it without complaint to come see us. That to me means more than anything. It was so nice to have someone recognize that we are always traveling and instead they did the drive, so they could come see us and spend time with us. It makes me sad when the boys don't remember certain family members or just don't have much of a relationship with them.
With the baby due around the holidays, it is going to be a very long stretch before we make it back to VA. The boys haven't been back to VA since spring break, so it will be a year for them when we finally get back there. My sister taking the time to visit us meant so much to all of us! The boys were thrilled to see their cousins. They had a blast playing in the back yard many times with Uncle Phil and their cousins. We took them to a great new place we discovered that is all trampolines. Logan was timid at first, but then started to get more brave and had a blast. The older boys and Dennis and Phil had fun playing dodge ball on the trampolines. The men were worn out and dripping in sweat by the time they were done!
We also took them to the Children's museum. They had fun going through the haunted house and all the different exhibits. No trip to Carmel is complete with out seeing downtown Carmel, so we went to Bubs for burgers and then walked to the frozen yogurt place.
Monday, Dennis had to go back to work, but the rest of us went to Snapperz, which is an indoor arcade, bounce house, etc place. Phil and the boys played laser tag (I think Phil enjoyed this even more than that boys). Lastly, us adults played lots and lots of Catan in the evenings. It was a great time!
Tuesday, the Moore's left and Dennis also headed to the airport to fly to NY for work. He got back Thursday just in time to watch the kids so I could host girls night. I am so glad that box is checked on my list of things to do before the baby comes!
Speaking of baby...I am 32 weeks today, it is flying by! Doctor says she will induce on Dec. 21st if baby doesn't come before than (assuming the hospital and she is available that day), so that we won't have to worry about trying to find someone to watch our kids on Christmas Day. That day won't get scheduled until I am closer to the end, so its not set in stone. Anyway, I am hoping the baby comes sooner than that so I won't have to be induced, but you never know...
And just to record this moment for Logan....Logan pooped on the potty for the first time yesterday! He was excited to get his R2 D2 prize (or as he calls him "DooDee DooDee") for pooping on the potty. Potty training is moving along slowly but surely. Yesterday he declared "No more Pull ups, just underwear", so I let him go in just underwear all day. He did have one accident, but I managed to keep him on a potty schedule that kept him from any other accidents. He loves being in just underwear ("Like E" as he says, he really looks up to Evan), but he doesn't really take much initiative yet to go to the potty. We aren't pushing it, we are letting him go at his own pace, so who knows when it will all fully click for him.

Wedding, Shower, and Baptism in VA.
Grandpa McLaughlin got into town Wednesday night so he could watch the boys for the next four days while Dennis and I headed to VA for a wedding. This was the longest we have been away from the three of them, but our options were limited. It was either leave them here or pay for 5 of us to fly to VA for a weekend. With tickets being almost 300 a person, that wasn't very practical. Especially given it would be a busy weekend and we would have had to get someone to watch the boys all four days in VA. We couldn't drive because with how long the drive is and needing to be there Thursday morning, we would have had to pull the kids out of 4 days of school. Luckily, Grandpa McLaughlin was nice to offer to watch the kids as soon as he found out about the wedding.
Dennis was best man for his friend Jeremy's wedding, so we had lots to do. Thursday, Dennis had to try on and pick up the tux and then we had lunch with a couple of my sisters. We then went to Grandma Bridgers and Roberts house for dinner and to see their new home. It was nice to see Meghan, Eric and Miranda too. And, I always love Catherine's cooking!
Friday, we had free time during the day so we took advantage of not having any kids with us and went out for lunch and a movie. It was nice to be able to carve out a little alone time during all the running around. Friday night was the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
Saturday, while the guys spent the day and got ready at Shane's house (Dennis' cousin). My sisters, sister in law (Fanchon) and my Mom all took me out for brunch to celebrate the new baby coming. They were very generous with gifts. It was nice to get some new things for the baby since she will have mostly hand me downs from people. She got a few outfits, blankets, wash clothes and a baby carrier. It is a lot of fun to see pink after 7 1/2 years of boys clothes and things. When we arrived back in Indiana a new infant car seat was also waiting for us from my Mom and Dad! Ours was in rough shape and had expired so we had gotten rid of it. I am so blessed to have a great, thoughtful family. Even though this will be the 15th grandchild, they still take the time to celebrate her soon to be arrival and make me and the baby feel special.
After the brunch, Lisa (Shane's wife) and I met the guys at the wedding. It was a cold, but gorgeous ceremony and reception and a fun night.
Sunday, the bride and groom hosted a nice brunch which was delicious and then Dennis and I were off to my sisters church for the baptism of my nephews, Brandon and Lincoln. I am Brandon's godmother, so it was nice of Julie to plan the baptism the same weekend as the wedding to avoid us having to buy additional plane tickets to fly down another weekend. After that was a reception at Julie's house.
We miss a lot of family events being in Indiana, but we try our best to be in VA for the real important ones. It was a busy four days, but I am so happy that I got to be there for all the events!
When we got home the boys were asleep, so I was very excited to see them this morning. Unfortunetly, the first thing I noticed when I gave Logan a kiss was that he had a fever. So, instead of going to day care I kept him home with me today. We are spending the day getting the house organized and catching up on all the laundry. I can't remember the last time one of the kids were sick, it has been since early Spring I think, but it is nice to have a little alone time with him today after being gone.
We have our next house guests coming on Thursday! Julie's family decided they would like to come visit, so they will be here Thursday-Tuesday and we can't wait! We know how hard it is to travel such a long distance with 3 small kids, so just the fact that they are willing to do that to come see us and the boys means a lot to us. I hate that some people haven't seen the boys since July or in some cases April, and we probably won't be back to VA until April 2013, so I appreciate them wanting to come see the boys, spend time with us and see our home.

Tae Kwan Do and Soccer...
Gymnastics has come to an end. Evan decided he wanted to try Tae Kwan Do instead of another season of gymnastics. He has a buddy in his class doing it, so I think that is where he got the idea. I've always been a little worried of putting little boys in Tae Kwan Do, for the exact reason of Evan announcing, "I want to learn to fight!" I know that they really stress building confidence, discipline, and self control, so I am hoping that is what he gets out of it instead of just learning to fight.
Anyway, we took him to his trial classes which included a private lesson and a group lesson. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was more fun to watch than I thought it would be. The kids were real cute and Evan loved it. So, we went ahead and signed him up. Its a year commitment (twice a week), but you can pick any two classes to come to each week, so there is a lot of flexibility in working around other activities.
Colin's soccer season has also come to an end. They won their first 2 games of their tournament and Colin scored the tying goal of their third game (it was 1:1, but then they lost in the shoot out). Overall, they came in 3rd place out of 24 teams, so that is pretty cool! I was going to sign him up for indoor soccer next, but the season goes right through when the baby is due and I thought that might be tough to commit to. So, we might sign him up for the second winter session that starts mid January or just wait until Spring soccer.
