Grandpa McLaughlin got into town Wednesday night so he could watch the boys for the next four days while Dennis and I headed to VA for a wedding. This was the longest we have been away from the three of them, but our options were limited. It was either leave them here or pay for 5 of us to fly to VA for a weekend. With tickets being almost 300 a person, that wasn't very practical. Especially given it would be a busy weekend and we would have had to get someone to watch the boys all four days in VA. We couldn't drive because with how long the drive is and needing to be there Thursday morning, we would have had to pull the kids out of 4 days of school. Luckily, Grandpa McLaughlin was nice to offer to watch the kids as soon as he found out about the wedding.
Dennis was best man for his friend Jeremy's wedding, so we had lots to do. Thursday, Dennis had to try on and pick up the tux and then we had lunch with a couple of my sisters. We then went to Grandma Bridgers and Roberts house for dinner and to see their new home. It was nice to see Meghan, Eric and Miranda too. And, I always love Catherine's cooking!
Friday, we had free time during the day so we took advantage of not having any kids with us and went out for lunch and a movie. It was nice to be able to carve out a little alone time during all the running around. Friday night was the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
Saturday, while the guys spent the day and got ready at Shane's house (Dennis' cousin). My sisters, sister in law (Fanchon) and my Mom all took me out for brunch to celebrate the new baby coming. They were very generous with gifts. It was nice to get some new things for the baby since she will have mostly hand me downs from people. She got a few outfits, blankets, wash clothes and a baby carrier. It is a lot of fun to see pink after 7 1/2 years of boys clothes and things. When we arrived back in Indiana a new infant car seat was also waiting for us from my Mom and Dad! Ours was in rough shape and had expired so we had gotten rid of it. I am so blessed to have a great, thoughtful family. Even though this will be the 15th grandchild, they still take the time to celebrate her soon to be arrival and make me and the baby feel special.
After the brunch, Lisa (Shane's wife) and I met the guys at the wedding. It was a cold, but gorgeous ceremony and reception and a fun night.
Sunday, the bride and groom hosted a nice brunch which was delicious and then Dennis and I were off to my sisters church for the baptism of my nephews, Brandon and Lincoln. I am Brandon's godmother, so it was nice of Julie to plan the baptism the same weekend as the wedding to avoid us having to buy additional plane tickets to fly down another weekend. After that was a reception at Julie's house.
We miss a lot of family events being in Indiana, but we try our best to be in VA for the real important ones. It was a busy four days, but I am so happy that I got to be there for all the events!
When we got home the boys were asleep, so I was very excited to see them this morning. Unfortunetly, the first thing I noticed when I gave Logan a kiss was that he had a fever. So, instead of going to day care I kept him home with me today. We are spending the day getting the house organized and catching up on all the laundry. I can't remember the last time one of the kids were sick, it has been since early Spring I think, but it is nice to have a little alone time with him today after being gone.
We have our next house guests coming on Thursday! Julie's family decided they would like to come visit, so they will be here Thursday-Tuesday and we can't wait! We know how hard it is to travel such a long distance with 3 small kids, so just the fact that they are willing to do that to come see us and the boys means a lot to us. I hate that some people haven't seen the boys since July or in some cases April, and we probably won't be back to VA until April 2013, so I appreciate them wanting to come see the boys, spend time with us and see our home.
